The International Arbitration and Mediation Centre (IAMC), Hyderabad is one of the more striking
recent additions to India's institutional landscape — a new institution that established meaningful
caseload unusually quickly.
History and status
The IAMC was established in 2021 as a registered trust with the support of the Telangana High Court.
That judicial linkage matters: court-annexed and court-supported institutions tend to generate a
steady flow of referred matters, a model first demonstrated in India by the Delhi International
Arbitration Centre.
Track record
In roughly its first two and a half years, the IAMC administered approximately 52 cases with a
combined value of around USD 785 million. The number of cases is modest; the aggregate value is not.
That combination indicates the institution attracted substantial commercial disputes early, which is
harder for a new institution to achieve than volume alone.
Services
The IAMC administers both arbitration and mediation. Offering integrated pathways rather than
arbitration alone reflects the broader direction of travel among leading institutions worldwide,
where standalone mediation rules and hybrid processes have moved from novelty to standard.
Position in the Indian landscape
India's institutional ecosystem is broadening quickly, and regional centres with strong judicial
backing are a significant part of that growth. The IAMC sits alongside the MCIA in Mumbai, the IIAC
and Delhi International Arbitration Centre in Delhi, the ICA, and the Nani Palkhivala Arbitration
Centre in Chennai.
For parties in southern India, a regional institution with local judicial support can offer
practical advantages in scheduling and cost. See the guide to drafting an arbitration clause for how
to name an institution correctly in a contract.
